Methodology
Public data sources, update frequency, and how the Industry Composite is calculated
Flightline Composite View
The Flightline Composite View is a composite index (0-100) measuring the overall health of the U.S. mortgage lending industry. It is computed from real data across six weighted components, each scored independently:
| Component | Weight | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Rate Environment Stress | 20% | FRED API, Fannie Mae loan-level data |
| FHA Defect Pressure | 20% | FHA Neighborhood Watch (453 lenders) |
| Fannie Mae Performance | 20% | Fannie Mae loan-level delinquency & repurchase data |
| Enforcement Activity | 15% | CFPB, OCC, NCUA enforcement actions |
| Regulatory Intensity | 15% | Cross-agency enforcement density |
| Market Stress | 10% | Compare ratio distribution (% above 150) |
Score Interpretation
Multiple headwinds: volume declining, defects rising, regulatory pressure intense.
Mixed signals. Some areas of concern, monitor closely.
Normal operating conditions. Typical cyclical position.
Favorable conditions. Volume growing, defects contained.
Editorial Standards
The AWACS distinguishes between three types of content:
We clearly distinguish between data and opinion throughout the dashboard.
Data Sources
All data used in the AWACS comes from publicly available sources:
This public dashboard presents market, regulatory, and industry-level signals. Internal sales or prioritization metrics are not included.
Update Frequency
FLIGHTLINE Platform
FLIGHTLINE uses this same underlying data (FHA defect metrics, Fannie Mae performance data, and regulatory intelligence) to power its autonomous quality control platform for mortgage lenders. The AWACS is our way of making this intelligence freely available to the industry.

Transparency
We believe in full transparency about our methodology. The AWACS is designed to be an objective, data-driven tool. Our editorial layer (risk signals, impact assessments) represents our best analysis based on available evidence. We clearly distinguish between data and opinion.
